Montreal, QC

Multidisciplinary artist Elle Barbara, in collaboration with Danse-Cité, is seeking 8 dancers to take part in the new creation: AUTOGYNEGAMY, a multidisciplinary ceremonial performance. Shows will take place in May 2025.

Elle Barbara is a Montreal-based avant-garde singer-songwriter, pin-up artist, performer and community facilitator, whose musical output alternately combines elements of sophisti-pop, jazz, psychedelia, glam, and underground.  A lover of the odd, obscure, and overlooked elements in pop music, Elle Barbara made her name in artist-run spaces at the turn of the 2010s. Since then, she's enjoyed a cult reputation.

AUTOGYNEGAMY is developed with the support from the National Arts Centre’s National Creation Fund that we warmly thank.

We acknowledge that we are on the traditional and unceded territory. Montreal, called ‘Tio'tià:ke’ in Kanien'kéha and ‘Mooniyang’ in Anishinaabemowin, is a historic gathering place for First Nations, including the Kanien'kehà:kas, the Wendats, the Abenaki and the Anishinaabeg, long before the arrival of the first European settlers. We wish to express our deep respect for the contribution of Indigenous nations to the culture of societies here and around the world.
