aWokening by Winnie Ho

In aWokening, I aspire to reconnect with my birthplace, Hong Kong, by exploring the embodiment of grief, the loss of roots and the perpetual longing to return... Creating with my father's knowledge of wok cooking and auscultating the methods and materials used in Cantonese cuisine, I listen, reconnect intimately with my ancestors and immerse myself in wok chi (鑊氣), the energy of the wok, which gives Cantonese cuisine its singular flavor. aWokening is a landscape of dreams and memories expressed through an immersive, multi-sensory experience blending smells, sounds, tastes and images.
