Having come of age in the divided German capital prior to the fall of the Berlin Wall, Isabel Mohn is interested in notions of cultural, social or psychological barriers that may exist between individuals and their surroundings. Driven by a desire to understand and even transcend the barriers between the “I” and the “Other,” the choreographer brings this kind of questioning to the fore in be somebody else, a work for four dancers. And what if the “Other” was contained inside the “I” and it was possible to become the “Other”? Exploring the tension between what we are in the real and concrete world, shaped by daily habits, and what we dream of being in an imaginary world, this dance delves into the two opposite faces of the same thing. Are they irreconcilable? Are openness and snippets of dialogue possible? Scenographic elements are integrated into the choreography in order to echo the potential for transformation that lies hidden behind the limits we impose on ourselves.

Where does the “I” end and the “us” begin? […] This motif takes shape […] giving rise to beautiful human chains in movement.
