Drawing from her mother’s writings and family scrapbooks stuffed with memorabilia, anecdotes and disparate reflections, Sophie Corriveau, a brilliant performer who has dazzled the dance community for 25 years, at last presents her own creative project: a solo with theatrical touches. Who is this person on stage? A woman? A child? A body containing multiple eras and all lived experiences, forever fragmented … Conceived by artist Thomas Corriveau (brother of Sophie), the film animation component brings an added dimension to bear on the dance: the image, drawn repeatedly until it is unrecognizable, real then virtual, transforms itself and becomes poetry, vertigo, a crush of sensations, with the solo serving as an echo. As in life. In an intimate and incongruous atmosphere that evokes play, words and gestures, reality and fiction alternately and clash and coalesce.

Vertiges : An exhibition of works by Thomas Corriveau, presented at the Laboratoire de l’Agora de la danse from October 12 to 15, 2012.
